Profile
Tom came from a family of boaters. His grandfather owned a boatyard on the
banks of the Delaware River. Tom launched his career in the marine industry at the age of 12 when his father started a fishing
boat business in 1956. Just like Tom, his three brothers are all USCG licensed captains actively involved in marine enterprises.
Tom and his wife Lynn own a 48’ motor yacht that they use to enjoy cruising and sportfishing. After providing twenty years of marine technical support to a major world leader in the marine insurance industry,
Tom decided to make his great marine expertise available to the marine public. His experience in conducting thousands of vessel
surveys, marine insurance claims and underwriting, as well as vessel construction and damage repair, makes him the logical
choice when it comes to your boat and your marine facility survey needs.
Prior certification in 1989 until his
retirement from the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) in 2021, Capt. Tom remains an active Accredited Marine
Surveyor in the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS), Tom’s qualifications as a marine surveyor are well known
throughout the Atlantic seaboard. He has also conducted numerous yacht and marina surveys along the Gulf Coast States, California,
Washington and Oregon thereby providing him with the first hand knowledge to understand your specific geographical or navigational
needs.
Coast Guard licensed in 1962, Tom holds a current 100-ton Ocean Masters License. He has owned and operated
numerous large commercial passenger-carrying vessels in addition to private pleasure craft. His experience as a boatswain’s
mate and search and rescue boat coxswain in the U.S. Coast Guard taught him the invaluable lessons of heavy weather operations.
He understands the conditions you may encounter.
Along with maintaining his various surveyor certifications, Tom
served twelve years as a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Technical Review Board. In addition,
he served on the ABYC Hull and Deck Structures, and the Electrical Project Technical Committees. Since joining ABYC in 1981,
and serving as a standards committee member for fifteen years, he has helped write today’s widely used marine industry
recommended boat safety standards. Tom's service to the ABYC has gained him "life member" status.
In addition to Capt. Tom’s expertise, his wife Lynn works along with him and is an excellent marine consultant. Lynn
complements the survey team as she addresses the technical issues in addition to the boating interests and concerns of both
men and women.
